Rams-Giants responsible for first Scorigami of 2021 NFL season

Scorigami is "the art of building final scores that have never happened before in NFL history"

Twitter is typically a polarizing environment, where there's rarely a consensus about anything, especially with regard to the wide world of sports.

Whether it's an argument about a certain call from referees, a coaching decision, a G.O.A.T. debate, or a fantasy football decision — or literally anything else that might be a topic of discussion among sports fans — there will be at least two sides (and probably more) with all sorts of hot takes, bold claims and bickering fans abound.

It's rare, then, to find a community where everyone can live in peace and harmony — again, especially when sports factor into the equation — but it's not impossible.

That's because there is something called Scorigami, identifying never-before-seen scores at the conclusion of a sporting event, and it's a phenomenon that brings fans together in a moment of celebration and unity when it occurs.

Fortunately, we got to witness the first one of the 2021 NFL season in Week 6, when the playoff-bound Los Angeles Rams trounced the injury-depleted New York Giants. The final score was 38-11, and this is was the first time in league history that a game has ever finished with such a score.

38 points is a total that can be reached in a number of different ways, with the most likely route to get there a five-touchdown game with a field goal. That's just how the Rams did it in Week 6, scoring four times in the second quarter, finding the end zone once again in the fourth, and tacking on that field goal in the third.

For the Giants and their 11 points, the most obvious route was also how they accomplished it: a touchdown with a two-point conversion and a field goal. Although a safety and three field goals would have been an interesting way to get there as well.

Nearly everyone — save for the very large majority of Giants fans — was excited to finally see a Scorigami in the 2021 season. With over 33,000 likes and over 10,000 retweets — and counting — Scorigamis continue to excite NFL fans when there may not be much to be excited about in a blowout game.

There were a handful of Scorigamis last season, with the most recent coming in the playoffs when the Cleveland Browns defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 48-37.

The Giants were on the losing end of another Scorigami in 2020, going down 36-9 against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3.
