A blockbuster trade involving Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson could be in the works, according to multiple reports.
Watson would be joining the Miami Dolphins as part of a three-team deal also involving the Washington Football Team, according to Coty M. Davis of Texans Wire. As part of the exchange, Washington would receive Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Davis reported.
Separately, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported that the Texans and Dolphins have recently intensified their on-and-off trade talks regarding Watson, with a deal possibly getting done as soon as this week and no later than the Nov. 2 NFL Trade Deadline.
Watson, 26, has been inactive for every Texans games so far this season, after he was accused of sexual misconduct and assault in an explosive series of civil lawsuits filed in the offseason. The allegations are being investigated by authorities, as well as the NFL.
Despite Watson's inactive status on game days, he has been collecting his salary after reporting to camp and continuing to work out.
The Texans were said to be seeking, at least, three first round draft picks and several second and third round picks in exchange for Watson, a three-time Pro Bowler drafted 12th overall by Houston in 2017.
Watson has a full no-trade clause and would have to approve any deal, though he was previously reported to be interested in joining Miami.
The Dolphins, who have long been widely reported to be among the most motivated suitors for Watson, have picked up their pursuit following their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, according to McClain.
The defeat sent Miami to an ugly 1-5 start to the 2021 season, caused, in part, by the absence of Tagovailoa.
In a strange twist, the Dolphins were set to host the Texans in Week 9 on Sunday, Nov. 7 at Hard Rock Stadium.
