Reports: NFL has highest number of positive tests in a day since COVID-19 list began

Bills linebacker Tyrel Dodson is among the positive tests from Monday

The National Basketball Association canceled its first games of the 2021-22 season due to a COVID-19 outbreak, and the bad news quickly followed in another league.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that 36 players had landed on the league's Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, which is the highest number to appear in a single day since the list was created last year. The full list was shared by Ari Meirov, who relayed that the NFL said each and every one of the 36 names had tested positive.

Among the names to appear on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday included Buffalo Bills linebacker Tyrel Dodson.

The first known case of Omicron in the NFL was also found on Monday, though it wasn't from a player. Pelissero reports that a Tier 3 staffer — which consists of "certain operational personnel, in-house media and broadcast personnel, field manager, transportation providers and individuals who perform essential facility, stadium or event services but do not require close contact with Tier 1 individuals" — with the Washington Football Team was the positive Omicron case. He added that Tier 3 staffers are not allowed around players.

It is too early to tell how all of these positives, as well as any others that pop up in the coming days, will affect Week 15 matchups.

However, Week 14 will come to an end with Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Tyler Higbee both landing on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. They join several other Rams, including running back Darrell Henderson, who had already landed on the list.
