After Baker Mayfield was traded to the Carolina Panthers from the Cleveland Browns, many had reactions to the deal -- including Robbie Anderson who didn't seem all that thrilled about it by responding to a report on Instagram from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport with the simple comment of “Nooooo.”
Anderson tried to explain his comments at the beginning of training camp, saying he made the remarks in defense of Sam Darnold.
"Just trying to be a good teammate to my quarterback. That’s it,” Anderson said. “Just trying to defend the guy who is my quarterback in a sense. You know what I’m saying? That’s it."
Anderson’s latest comments on Mayfield is an indication that there are no more hard feelings between the two -- giving the former No. 1 overall pick a glowing review of his performance so far at camp, crediting him for his leadership and ability to pick up the offense so quickly.
“He’s smart,” Anderson said, via Anthony Rizzuti of USAToday.com. “He’s picked up the offense, like, rapidly. I like his energy a lot. I like that a lot about him. Like his leadership. And his confidence.”
In 2021, Anderson had a career-low 519 receiving yards in a season that saw Daronld get benched and the Panthers finished with a 5-11 record.
While Anderson originally defended Darnold, if Mayfield rebounds from a shaky 2021 campaign in Cleveland and continues to impress, I'm sure we will see a jump in those numbers.
