The first round of the 2022 NHL Draft in Montreal has concluded.
It was a wild night in Montreal that saw some of the top picks in the draft class fall lower than ever expected, while other players made leaps-and-bounds up some draft boards.
History was in the making on Thursday night, as Juraj Slafkovsky was selected first overall by the Montreal Canadiens, becoming the first Slovakian-born player in NHL history to hear his name called first in the NHL Draft.
With the very next pick to the New Jersey Devils, another Slovakian-born player went off the board with defenseman Simon Nemec.
One name that fell dramatically out of the top-three selections of the 2022 draft was forward Shane Wright. Heading into the draft, the Canadian center was widely ranked as the best player available at the top of the class. During the first round, however, Wright fell all the way to the fourth overall pick and into the hands of the Seattle Kraken.
