Buffalo, NY (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Sabres were able to find their way after a rough three-game start to the season. They now sit at 4-4-1 and just outside of a playoff spot early in the season.
Part of the struggle for the team had been dealing with players missing for injury, the team is now on the mend helping the cause. Michael Kesselring will make his way into the lineup for the first time tonight against Columbus. Sabres assistant coach Seth Appert joined Jeremy and Joe and spoke on Kesselring making his appearance and Josh Doan's impressive contributions as well.
"We're excited about that. It's, you know, see how morning skate is how he's feeling. But you know, that was a big offseason acquisition for us, getting him and don't Doan has been outstanding, and adding so many different things into our lineup now offensively, but also physically. And you know, we're excited to get Kesselring into that D core. Defense of course, playing really good as it is right now. Adding a player of his caliber and his size is something we're very excited about."
Appert also touched on the tough start, what went wrong and also what went right for the team, along with what is expected going forward.
"The last six games have been better. We still think we have a lot of growth to do. We didn't start the season how we wanted to. Now we're 4-1-1 in our last six games and we felt that we should have had two points in Toronto. You like getting a point on the road, but you know, you're up three to two in the last 10 minutes of that game. And those are games that we need to keep learning how to close out, those hard nosed games on the road. But I think. What we've done a really good job of the last six games is we put ourselves in position to win all six... You need to play in such a manner with your structure and your talent and your competitiveness that you continue to put yourself in position to win games in the third period. The more times you do that, the more points you can accumulate over time.
The Sabres take on the Blue Jackets tonight at Keybank Center with faceoff set for 6:45. You can catch all of the game action on the radio home of the Buffalo Sabres, WGR Sports Radio 550.
