Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - It was certainly an exciting past week for the Buffalo Sabres.
After two rough losses to the Los Angeles Kings and Florida Panthers, the Sabres got back to their winning ways with a 3-1 win over Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights. The win was only made sweeter when Eichel was held off the score sheet, while both Peyton Krebs and Alex Tuch both scored goals against their former team.
Then on Sunday, Buffalo continued their winning ways on the outdoor rink with a 5-2 win over the Sabres' cross-border rival, Toronto Maple Leags in the 2022 Heritage Classic.
Sabres head coach Don Granato joined the “Howard and Jeremy Show” on Tuesday for his weekly segment on WGR, and had plenty to say about not only specific players, but also the “rewards” the Sabres are starting to reap.
“It’s felt like the last few games, our team takes the game over in the third period,” said Granato with Howard Simon and Jeremy White. "We’ve been growing all year. We just haven’t gotten the rewards, but now we are starting to.”
Two players that got Sabres fans talking over the weekend in Hamilton, Ontario were Dylan Cozens and Rasmus Dahlin. Both players not only performed extremely well in Buffalo's win over the Maple Leafs, but were the center of attention with their interactions with Auston Matthews.
While both players were willing to get their noses dirty with the league's top goal scorer, Granato spoke more highly of what each player brings to the table for the Sabres going forward.
“He’s a winner," Granato said of Dahlin. “He just wants to win, and you’re going to see that more and more.
"Every day I watch Cozens, and I get excited, because there is so much more to his game.”
