Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Owen Power assisted on three of the Buffalo Sabres' four goals on Tuesday night in a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars at KeyBank Center.
The Sabres successfully killed off a pair of penalties in the opening period, improving their penalty kill to 18-of-24 for the season. Peyton Krebs was initially penalized for cross-checking, while Rasmus Dahlin was later called for tripping.
Buffalo was credited with 11 shots on goal, despite having no power play chances in the first 20 minutes. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made nine saves, stopping all of Dallas' shots in the first period as well.
It took well into the second period for either side to break the scoreless stalemate.
Krebs connected on his first goal of the season after the puck initially hit the cross bar behind Stars goalie Jake Oettinger. Krebs then swatted the puck out of the air and into the net for a 1-0 Sabres advantage.
Just over a minute later, Ryan McLeod doubled Buffalo's lead to 2-0 with his fourth goal in as many games for the Sabres.
Jason Zucker made the cross-ice pass that helped set up the goal. The forward was credited with an assist along with Power.
The young defenseman assisted on both Sabres goals to help Buffalo get out to a two-goal advantage through 40 minutes of play.
Tage Thompson extended the Sabres' lead to three goals when he converted on a one-timer opportunity skating down the left wing. Once again, it was Power who helped create the scoring chance and was rewarded with another assist.
Alex Tuch was also credited with an assist on the goal that made the score 3-0 in favor of Buffalo.
A fortuitous bounce off of a Sabres' stick resulted in the first goal of the game for Dallas, helping the Stars trim the Buffalo lead to 3-1 with under five minutes remaining in regulation. Syracuse native Thomas Harley took the shot from the blue line for Dallas that eventually found its way into the net.
Tyler Seguin scored with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to cut Dallas' deficit to just a goal. The goal came with Oettinger on the bench in favor of an extra skater, putting the Sabres in a 6-on-5 disadvantage. Seguin's third goal of the season made the score 3-2 in favor of Buffalo.
Tuch added his second point of the night with an empty-net goal that helped complete the two-goal victory for Buffalo, 4-2. Thompson also added an assist for two points in the victory.
