(WGR 550) - Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin was a distant third in the voting for the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman. Zach Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets won his first Norris Trophy. In 2024-25 he finished second to Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche.
Werenski had 113 first place votes while Dahlin only secured 13. Overall the Blue Jackets' all-time points leader had 1,589 voting points. Makar had 1,191 points while Dahlin ended up with 657.
Werenski was second in scoring amongst defensemen finishing with 22 goals and 59 assists for 81 points. Makar had 20 goals and 59 assists for 79 points. Dahlin was sixth with 19 goals and 55 assists for 74 points. It was refreshing to see the top three are excellent in both ends of the ice. Often this trophy goes to the D-man with the most points.
The NHL points leader on defense, Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers was fourth followed by another strong two-way defenseman in Moritz Seider of the Detroit Red Wings. Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens was three points in back of Seider.
