The Buffalo Sabres returned to the ice Monday night against the New York Islanders, still with several players remaining on the NHL's COVID-19 Protocols list.

Before playing the Islanders on Tuesday night, only Casey Mittelstadt remained.

Sabres forwards Dylan Cozens and Curtis Lazar, as well as defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen all came off the league's COVID-19 list Tuesday evening just before puck drop at KeyBank Center.

The Sabres have also made a couple moves with their taxi squad that could give some indicators for what the lineup will look like versus New York. Rasmus Asplund has been called up from the taxi squad, while Steven Fogarty and Brandon Davidson have been re-assigned to the taxi squad.

Asplund will likely enter the lineup, replacing Fogarty, which leaves the blueline to be figured out.

Brandon Montour and Jake McCabe both returned to practice on Monday and are now off the NHL's COVID-19 list as well. One may be ready to return in Davidson's spot, unless Ristolainen is ready to return as well.

Faceoff between the Sabres and Islanders on Tuesday is set for 7 p.m. EST. Be sure to follow Paul Hamilton on Twitter for the latest from KeyBank Center.
