Buffalo, NY (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Bruins staved off elimination with a 2-1 overtime victory at KeyBank Center Tuesday night. David Pastrnak scored the game winner to extend the series, while Jeremy Swayman stopped 24 shots for Boston in the Game 5 victory.

The Sabres took advantage of an early chance on the power play with Mark Kastelic in the box for roughing. It was Rasmus Dahlin breaking the scoring drought with the man advantage putting home the first goal of the night just 3:35 into the game.

The Captain gets it going on the power play

Later in the first, Noah Ostlund would get checked along the boards and head to the bench slowly, going straight to the locker room. He missed some time before coming back to the bench in the final minutes of the period. Though during the intermission, Buffalo officially ruled Ostlund out for the remainder of the game.

Boston tied the game midway through the second period as Elias Lindholm grabbed a loose puck in front and beat Alex Lyon to the glove side through traffic.

Buffalo had two more chances on the power play in the second period, but couldn't convert on either opportunity.

The tightly contested, low scoring battle would continue into the third period. Each team got a chance on the power play, but neither team could take the lead with the man advantage.

The Sabres had a few chances to break the tie late, with the best chance being Tyson Kozak in close but Jeremy Swayman made a great left pad save to keep it 1-1 and the two teams would head to overtime.

The teams would trade chances in overtime through the first half of the extra frame but Hampus Lindholm found David Pastrnak breaking in behind the Buffalo defense at the blue line and made a great move to beat Alex Lyon and give the Bruins the 2-1 victory.

Despite the loss, Alex Lyon was solid again stopping 27 shots on the night. He has given up just four goals in three games during this series.
