Sabres call up Isak Rosen from Rochester

The 21-year-old AHL All-Star has been red-hot with the Amerks

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Following a streak of red-hot play in the American Hockey League, Isak Rosen is getting the call, once again, from the parent club in the National Hockey League.

The Buffalo Sabres announced on Monday the call up of Rosen after the 21-year-old took part in festivities at AHL All-Star Weekend in Palm Springs, Calif., home of the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Rosen has played some of his best hockey over the last couple of weeks, putting up points in six of the last seven games played. In that span, he has scored nine goals and registered two assists for 11 points.

In his last four games, Rosen has scored seven goals, including three game-winning goals.

So far this season, Rosen leads the Amerks in scoring with 23 goals and 16 assists for 39 points in 40 games played. That's also good for ninth overall in the AHL in scoring to this point of the season.

His 23 goals scored not just leads the Amerks by three, it's also second in the entire league behind just Toronto Marlies forward Alex Steeves, who has 25 goals this season.

Over the last three seasons with the Amerks, Rosen has scored 57 goals and added 69 assists for 126 points in 173 games played. In the playoffs, Rosen has produced 10 points (6+4) in 19 games for Rochester.

While Rosen's numbers in the AHL have been impressive, his NHL production has not been much in his limited action. In eight games over the last two years, Rosen is pointless, while also registering a minus-3 rating.

It is unclear whether Rosen's call up from Rochester is for the long-term, or if he is up from the Amerks simply due to injury in Buffalo.

On Friday night, forward Tyson Kozek took a puck to the hand in Buffalo's win over the Nashville Predators. While the Sabres forward was able to finish Friday's contest, he did not play Sunday afternoon against the New Jersey Devils.

Then on Sunday, forward Tage Thompson was forced to leave the win over New Jersey after taking a dirty, late hit from Devils forward Stefan Noesen in the third period. While Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff says Thompson cleared all the tests for a concussion, it is unclear whether he will be available for Buffalo come Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Sabres forward Jiri Kulich was also banged up on Sunday afternoon against the Devils, but ended up finishing the contest after taking a couple of shifts away in the locker room.

The Sabres and Blue Jackets will drop the puck Tuesday night at 7 p.m. from KeyBank Center in Downtown Buffalo.
