Sabres ink goalie Devon Levi to two-year deal

The 23-year-old goaltender is likely to continue his development in Rochester

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed their last restricted free agent, as goalie Devon Levi inks a two-year contract worth $1.625 million, a cap hit of $812,500.

This is a one-way contract, which means Levi will make his same NHL salary this season of $775,000, whether he's in Buffalo or Rochester.

Last season, Levi spent most of his time with the Rochester Americans, where he was an AHL All-Star. Levi went 25-13-4 in 42 games with the Amerks, sporting a 2.20 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.

In the Calder Cup Playoffs, the 23-year-old went 5-3 with a 2.52 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.

Levi started the season with the Sabres, alternating starts with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. That didn’t work for either goalie, and Levi was eventually sent back down to Rochester.

In nine games with the Sabres, Levi was just 2-7-0 with a 4.12 goals against average and an .872 save percentage.

In 2023, Levi signed with the Sabres out of Northeastern University and played seven games at the tail end of the 2022-23 season. He actually helped the Sabres almost make the playoffs, going 5-2-0 with a 2.94 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage.

The next season, he was handed the starting job and flopped, going down to Rochester for 26 games later in the season.

Overall in the NHL, Levi is 17-17-2 with a 3.29 goals-against average and an .894 save percentage. In 68 games with the Amerks, he’s 41-19-8 with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.

In the AHL playoffs, Levi is 7-6 with a 2.54 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

Chances are pretty good that Levi will start this season in Rochester with the Amerks. That’s because Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams signed goalie Alex Lyon in free agency to likely pair with Luukkonen.
