It was announced late Monday morning resources will be split between the two franchises, both of which will now operate as separate organizations.
"We are thankful for the work and effort so many have put into PSE over the years, but feel it is the right time for them to return home to separate organizations," said Pegula in a team statement.
John Roth will remain in his role with the organization as COO of the Sabres, and will continue to work collaboratively with Pegula on the business leadership group. Meanwhile, Kevyn Adams will also continue his role as general manager, leading the hockey side of the organization.
Pegula Sports and Entertainment was originally formed in 2011.
