Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Sabres have placed forward Riley Sheahan on unconditional waivers on Sunday for the purpose of terminating his contract.
According to Lance Lysowski from The Buffalo News, the Sabres are terminating Sheahan's contract after he didn't want to report to the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League. He was assigned to the Amerks a week ago on Nov. 22.
Sheahan appeared in just two games with the Sabres this season, averaging 8:19 of ice-time with four penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating. He has also played in six games for the Amerks, picking up three assists.
The 30-year-old was in the early stages of his second tenure with the Sabres organization, where he had played 53 games with the team during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season after earning a contract out of training camp. Sheahan ended scoring four goals and registering 13 points in Buffalo before joining the Seattle Kraken the next season as a free agent.
If Sheahan goes unclaimed by 2 p.m. EST on Monday, his contract will be terminated and he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
