The Buffalo Sabres announced on Wednesday that goalie Jonas Johansson has been re-signed to a one-year contract worth $700,000. Johansson was set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.
The 25-year-old netminder from Gävle, Sweden had an impressive season with the Rochester Americans in 2019-20, where he put up a 14-4-3 record in 22 games played with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. Johansson ended up being named to his first American Hockey League All-Star Game during the season, while finishing the campaign sixth in the league in goals-against average and seventh in save percentage.
Johansson even got the chance to make his NHL debut this past season in Buffalo, appearing in six games while posting a 1-3-1 record, a 2.94 goals-against average and an .894 save percentage.
It is expected that Johansson will compete for the starting job with the Amerks in the 2020-21 season along with Sabres prospect Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
Johansson was Buffalo's third round pick (61st overall) back in the 2014 NHL Draft.
