With the eighth pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres select right winger Jack Quinn from the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League.
Quinn is one of the older players in the 2020 draft class, being born four days past being eligible for the 2019 NHL Draft.
The 6-foot-1, 176-pound right-shot winger had a stellar season with the 67's last season, scoring 52 goals and registering 37 assists for 89 points in 62 games played. Quinn was one of only two players in the OHL last year to score 50 goals in the season, finishing just behind Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson with 55.
Quinn was also the fourth player in the OHL to score 50 goals in their NHL Draft year since the 2009-10 season.
The native of Ottawa had a significant jump in production from his first full season in the OHL to his second. In the 2018-19 season, Quinn put up just 32 points, which included 12 goals in 61 games. In 18 playoff games in 2019, Quinn was able to tally up three goals and four assists for seven points.
As a 16-year-old playing in the Central Canada Hockey League, Quinn was named as the league's Rookie of the Year after a 46-point campaign (21+25) in 49 games with the Kanata Lasers.
According to NHL Central Scouting, Quinn is a "dynamic skater that can fly with the puck on his stick. Lethal shot with an exceptional release. Strong two-way game. Plays in all situations. Sniper with highlight reel goal-scoring ability."
They list his current comparable NHL player as Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon.
The Sabres will next select with the 38th overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday.
