Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - With a bevy of NHL defensemen on the roster, the Buffalo Sabres needed to clear some space up ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The Sabres were able to make a move Friday night, trading defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
The 29-year-old defenseman joined the Sabres last offseason as a free agent when he signed a two-year contract with the team.
In his one and only season in Buffalo, the Russian-born blue liner appeared in 68 games, scoring two goals and adding 12 assists for 14 points.
Over the course of his 279 games in the NHL with Buffalo, the Arizona Coyotes and Toronto Maple Leafs, Lyubushkin has scored five goals and registered 34 assists for 39 points.
The Sabres now have eight NHL defensemen on the roster, including Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power, Henri Jokiharju, Mattias Samuelsson, Connor Clifton, Erik Johnson, Cory Stillman and Jacob Bryson.
