Sabres sign forward from 2019 NHL Draft class

Filip Cederqvist played pro hockey in the SHL last season

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – The Buffalo Sabres have signed their fifth-round pick from the 2019 NHL Draft.

Filip Cederqvist will turn 22 in August. The forward netted 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 49 games for Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League.

During the 2020-21 season, he only played three games in the SHL for HV71 Jönköping. Most of his games were in Sweden's second-tier professional league playing for Tingsryds AIF. He scored nine goals and 27 assists for 36 points in 51 games in the HockeyAllsvenskan.

Cederqvist is the third player from the 2019 draft class to sign his entry-level contract. First-round pick Dylan Cozens and sixth-round selection Lukas Rousek are also under contract.

The Sabres are still waiting on three college players from that draft to sign. They are the team's other first-round pick Ryan Johnson (Minnesota), third-round pick Erik Portillo (Michigan) and fourth-round pick Eric Huglen (Minnesota).
