Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - With the acquisition of Josh Doan from the Utah Mammoth earlier this offseason, the Buffalo Sabres have traded winger Sam Lafferty to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Lafferty signed a two-year contract as a free agent with the Sabres last season, but he wasn't at all as effective with Buffalo as he was in Vancouver with the Canucks the year before.
In 60 games with the Sabres, Lafferty had four goals and three assists for seven points. The year before in 79 games with the Canucks, he had 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points.
Now the 30-year-old returns to Chicago, where he played parts of two seasons with the Blackhawks between 2021 and 2023. In his 97 games with the Blackhawks, Lafferty scored 15 goals and added 17 assists for 32 points.
Lafferty was originally a fourth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2014 NHL Draft.
