Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Sabres scored three times in the second period, including a power play goal by Jack Quinn to defeat the San Jose Sharks, 6-3, on Sunday night at KeyBank Center.
A second power play chance in the opening period allowed the Sabres to open up a 1-0 lead over San Jose. Tage Thompson buried his 16th goal of the year on a one-timer. Rasmus Dahlin made the pass that setup Thompson's goal. The defenseman and Dylan Cozens were credited with the assists.
San Jose was able to tie the game at 1-1 minutes later thanks to an even strength goal by Nick Bonino. His first goal of the season came after being left alone in the slot when Luke Kunin was able to keep the puck in the offensive zone at the blue line.
Kevin Labanc's power play tally less than three minutes later gave the Sharks their first lead of the night. His fifth goal of the season came after Cozens was penalized for boarding.
Just like on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche, the Sabres scored just seconds into the middle period. This time on Sunday, JJ Peterka's sixth goal of the season came only 16 seconds into the frame and tied the score, 2-2.
Just over four minutes later, Jeff Skinner buried his 12th goal of the season to put Buffalo back in front of the Sharks. The forward made a nifty move in the offensive zone that caused Nick Cicek to run into Dell, taking the goalie out of position.
Quinn registered his fourth point in as many games with a power play goal in the middle stanza to extend the Sabres' lead to 4-2. Quinn was able to skate down toward the top of the crease and slide his shot underneath Dell for his fifth goal of the year.
Quinn added his second goal of the game thanks to a pass by Cozens cross-ice to extend Buffalo's lead to 5-2. The goal gave Quinn five points in four games this week.
It took Oscar Lindblom less than 30 seconds to answer for San Jose and bring his team back to within a pair of goals, 5-3. His first goal of the season came with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation.
Alex Tuch took advantage of an empty-net opportunity to score his 12th goal of the season with a little more than three minutes remaining in regulation. Tuch's goal gave the Sabres a 6-3 cushion against San Jose.
