Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Mattias Samuelsson picked up a goal and two assists, recording a point on all three second-period goals to help power the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night at KeyBank Center.
The Bruins were able to score first, despite Buffalo outshooting their opponent early in the game.
David Pastrnak scored his 15th goal of the season just past the midway point of the opening period, as Elias Lindholm helped set a screen in front of the Sabres net to help Boston open up a 1-0 lead.
The Sabres outshot Boston, 13-8, in the opening 20 minutes. Neither team had a power play chance in the first period.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made seven saves in the first period for Buffalo.
Buffalo blitzed the Bruins early in the second period to flip their one-goal deficit into a two-goal advantage.
Ryan McLeod scored the game-tying goal less than two minutes into the second period, as he beat Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo to the far side with a shot.
Jack Quinn and Samuelsson helped create the goal and received the assists.
The Sabres defenseman was also in on the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later for a 2-1 lead. He received the secondary assist again after a shot from Tage Thompson was redirected past Koorpisalo by Peyton Krebs in front of the Boston net.
The goal was Krebs' second of the season.
Samuelsson's third point of the night came just over four minutes later to extend Buffalo's lead to 3-1 in the second, as he found some open ice from the point and fired home his sixth goal of the season.
Quinn and Bowen Byram received assists on the goal.
At one point, Buffalo held a 13-2 shots on goal advantage in the second period.
Josh Norris scored the lone goal in the third period to help secure the victory for Buffalo. His empty-net goal came with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation for a 4-1 win.
