PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Steelers are high on 3rd-round draft pick linebacker Alex Highsmith with defensive coordinator Keith Butler believing the rookie will see some snaps in the 2020 season.
Fellow linebacker T.J. Watt agrees and told reporters on Tuesday, he believes Highsmith will be ready to cover for himself and Bud Dupree in certain situations.
“I think Alex has done a great job of just being ready in all these tough circumstances to be a rookie and I think he knows the defense really well, he’s making all the proper calls, he’s asking all the right questions and I feel he defiantly can fill it when needed,” said Watt
Watt adds Highsmith filling in here and there will help improve his game.
“I think Bud and I found out last year that we can’t play at the full fame, we can’t play every single snap if we want to play to our fullest of potential so I think he can defiantly rotate into games this year.”
Watt also talked about the experience of having his brother Derek in camp with him and how special it is to him.
“It’s been awesome, very surreal experience just to be able to be out on the practice field look over and see the Watt on the back of the jersey on someone else other than myself,” said Watt.
Watt also believe his fullback brother “can do a multitude” of things to help the team on the offensive side of the ball.
Watt believes that the 2020 NFL season will be all about adjustments and the team that is able to adjust the quickest will have the best part to be successful and that the Steelers have adjusted well thus far.
Watt credits his success to simply hard work and says continues to improve and believes the Steelers defense is also improving.
