April 4, 2020 McGowens entered the transfer portal in mid-March, following his sophomore season. He averaged 11.5 points over his two seasons at Pitt. Coach Jeff Capel said recently he was aware that McGowens was considering a transfer last December.
McGowens chose the Cornhuskers over four SEC schools Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and Ole Miss. As things stand, he will have to sit out the 2020-21 season and will have two years of eligibilit.
