Veteran Teddy Bridgewater will start in Tagovailoa's place as Miami travels to Gillette Stadium.

Tagovailoa entered concussion protocol Tuesday, and head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed to reporters Wednesday that the third-year quarterback did indeed suffer a concussion in a Christmas Day loss to the Green Bay Packers:

This is Tagovailoa's second confirmed concussion this season, as he was forced into the fencing position after sustaining one in a Thursday Night Football matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4. There's a widespread belief that it was the second concussion in five days for Tagovailoa, given that he displayed concussion-like symptoms four days earlier in a dramatic win over the Buffalo Bills. If that's the case, this would be the third concussion in a matter of months for the 24-year-old.

It remains to be seen if Tagovailoa will return for the Week 18 matchup with the New York Jets, or a playoff game the following week, should the Dolphins reach the postseason for the first time since 2016.
