Taylor, 32, will likely serve as Daniel Jones’ backup in 2022, as the Giants look to place a competent veteran behind the former first round pick in 2019.

The Giants had recently been linked to Mitchell Trubisky as someone who could compete with Jones for the starting job in training camp, but he ultimately signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Taylor, who started six games last season for the Houston Texans, may not necessarily compete with Jones, but the Giants lacked a strong backup quarterback last season. Taylor certainly marks an upgrade in that department, although at a high price tag for a cap-strapped team.

The veteran quarterback threw for 966 yards and five touchdowns to five interceptions, with three rushing touchdowns last year in Houston.

He has also served as a backup for the Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns after starting for the Buffalo Bills from 2015-17.

Jones, meanwhile, has struggled to stay healthy since the Giants selected him sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Duke University.

The soon-to-be fourth-year quarterback played 11 games last year, and has struggled with consistency, especially with turnovers.

The Giants are reportedly not expected to exercise Jones’ fifth-year option for next season, so he could be playing to prove himself as the franchise quarterback for new head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.
