The Virginia Tech Hokies will don the New York Yankees logo on their helmets when they take on the Maryland Terrapins in the Pinstripe Bowl Wednesday afternoon:

As Chris Bengel of CBS Sports reminds us, the Yankees played an exhibition game at Virginia Tech on March 18, 2008, with Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon, Bobby Abreu, Robinson Cano, Jorge Posada and Jason Giambi all playing in the game. What ended up being an 11-0 Yankees win was one of the first major events at the school after an on-campus shooting in April of 2007 killed 33 people, and injured another 23.

Today's game will mark the 11th Pinstripe Bowl, with last year's game being cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the first time that Virginia Tech has appeared in the game.
