Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. recently promised that last year's breakout season was merely a trailer, and this season would be the "full movie."
Wednesday night in the Bronx, Guerrero Jr. put on a show.
The All-Star slugger clubbed three home runs and a double in a 6-4 win over the New York Yankees - much of it coming against ace Gerrit Cole, no less.
Perhaps, most impressively, two of the homers came after Guerrero Jr.'s bare hand was stepped on by Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks on an awkward play at first base.
Guerrero's hand was tended to by the Blue Jays' training staff during a brief delay, and in his next at-bat a short while later, the 23-year-old launched a missile of a homer off Cole.
The third and final homer came off reliever Jonathan Loaisiga.
The hitting clinic was a hit with Guerrero Jr.'s father, Hall of Fame slugger Vladimir Guerrero Sr.
"Kid is on fire," the proud dad tweeted, along with a couple of flame emojis.
The Yankees launched three homers of their own in the game, with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, and Gleyber Torres each accounting for one. However, it wasn't enough on this night.
Guerrero was hitting a cool .391/.417/.957 with four homers and eight RBIs on the season after the eruption.
