TNT landed quite the free agent for its future hockey coverage.
Turner Sports officially announced Wednesday the hiring of Wayne Gretzky as a studio analyst, reaching a multi-year agreement. Also joining Gretzky at Turner Sports includes play-by-play commentator Kenny Albert and color analyst Eddie Olczyk.
Gretzky, who previously failed to reach a deal with ESPN, has agreed to a contract "in the neighborhood" of $3 million per-season, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.
Charles Barkley reportedly helped recruit "The Great One," whom he is friends with, to TNT, which is aiming to create something similar to its "Inside the NBA" studio show which stars Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson.
Gretzky, 60, announced earlier on Tuesday that he was stepping down as vice chairman of the Edmonton Oilers.
Gretzky has worked with the Oilers since 2016. This would be his first-ever media gig.
