Atlanta Falcons radio analyst Dave Archer joined Dukes & Bell Wednesday to talk about the Falcons first padded practice, the offensive line battle that is brewing and whether this is the most versatile defense the Falcons have had under Dan Quinn?

Archer talked about the battle that is brewing for the left guard spot.

“What’s happening there, James Carpenter looking like a much sleeker version of himself than a year ago, looks much more determined to be the guy,” Archer said. “Maybe because of the competition he’s had, Matt Hennessy pushing hard, 6-3 310-pounder out of Temple the third-round draft pick looks like a road-grader in the run game learning to play the guard position. Remember he played center at Temple, so he can back up Mack if you should need that to happen.

“Matt Gono a guy that played tackle a year ago, he played some tackle again today. He’s been complete at that left guard position as well so I think the competition with better players, better athletic more experienced players going head to head in that particular job is going to make them better up front.”
