WILKES-BARRE, PA — A performance originally scheduled for July 25 at Luzerne County’s popular Rockin’ the River concert series has sparked controversy, with the frontman of Low Cut Connie publicly claiming the band was dropped due to political concerns.

“For the first time ever, my show has been canceled for ‘political’ reasons,” frontman Adam Weiner posted to social media Monday. “The promoters in Luzerne County, PA feel that this weekend’s Low Cut Connie show in Wilkes-Barre will be too controversial and polarizing. Low Cut Connie shows are quite the opposite!”

The Philadelphia-based rock band, known for high-energy live performances and outspoken social commentary, was replaced in the July 25 lineup by Halfway to Hell: A Tribute to AC/DC, according to updated promotional materials.

Luzerne County officials released a statement through County Manager Romilda Crocamo:

“Our goal is to have a place where we can enjoy music, food, promote our community, have fun, be safe and free of politics and propaganda.”

In a video message posted Monday, Weiner said he believes the decision stems from his public support for diversity, inclusion, and criticism of U.S. ICE raids, subjects addressed in his music and during performances. He cited his recent song, "Livin in the USA," which he said reflects the “terror, the unease, the fear that so many people in the United States are experiencing right now.”

WILK’s Morning News with Nancy and Jason spoke with Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo Tuesday morning about the controversy.
