LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Ukraine-born Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher launched a fundraiser Thursday to support refugees of the Ukraine crisis.
The 38-year-old actress said she and Kutcher will match what is raised up to $3 million. As of Friday morning, the couple’s GoFundMe campaign had reached $6.7 million, with an ultimate goal of $30 million.
“I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983. I came to America in 1991. I have always considered myself an American — proud American. I love everything that this country has done for myself and my family,” Kunis said in the campaign video while sitting next to Kutcher. “But today, I have never been more proud to be a Ukrainian.”
“And I’ve never been more proud to be married to a Ukrainian,” Kutcher interjected.
Kunis described the events that have unfolded in the Ukraine as “devastating.”
“There is no place in this world for this kind of unjust attack on humanity,” she said.
Kutcher said the couple was raising funds to support a relief effort that will have “immediate impact and provide much needed refugee and humanitarian aid to the area.”
Part of the money raised will go to the global logistics nonprofit Flexport.org, which is sending supplies to refugee sites in the countries of Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Moldova, according to CBS Los Angeles.
More than 1 million refugees have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded the country about a week ago.
