Sean Penn isn’t satisfied with the response Will Smith received after slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022.
Speaking with Variety, Penn wasn’t pleased with the reaction after Smith won Best Actor for his work in “King Richard” and then heading to awards afterparties.
“I don’t know Will Smith. I met him once. He seemed very nice when I met him. He was so f***ing good in ‘King Richard,’” Penn told the publication
“So why the f*** did you just spit on yourself and everybody else with this stupid f***ing thing? Why did I go to f***ing jail for what you just did? And you’re still sitting there? Why are you guys standing and applauding his worst moment as a person?” Penn said.
In 1987 at the age of 26, Penn got 60 days in county jail for spitting on and punching an extra on the set of “Colors,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
Penn said the response to the slap made him want his awards "melted down to bullets" that could be given to Ukraine "that they could shoot at the Russians."
Smith apologized after his altercation with Rock and was banned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences events for 10 years.
“My behavior was unacceptable,” Smith said in a 2022 video message.
