T-48 Friday Night Returns With Nearly 300 Campers Taking In The Experience

T-48 Camp Attracts South Florida Football Talent

It has now become the centerpiece of the off season for high school football players – and judging by the first event of 2020 last week, the T-48 Friday Night Lights Camp is headed for a record-breaking year.

With nearly 300 high school football players – from Miami to West Palm Beach and everywhere in between – gathered at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale for the first of six monthly experiences, there was no doubt that these training events are here to stay, and it is something you cannot get anywhere else.

As we know already, there is really no true off season in football – and while some prospects may take a few weeks away from the sport to recover from a long season – the objective is still all about attracting a college scholarship.

With one-time Calvary Christian record-setting quarterback Javan Shashaty, his father and so many others developing this idea over the past four years, there is no doubt that it has become the talk of high school campuses all over the region.

Held monthly away from the high school football season (January-July), this event not only showcases the talent that these many south Florida underclassmen bring to the table, but they are watched and taught my college coaches – such as this past Friday night with Keiser University, St. Thomas, Warner & Webber.

Among the coaches on hand for this past Friday included: Henry Columbi, Gerard Fulton, Jonathan Pares, Zackery Poole, former University of Miami kicker Bubba Baxa & Logan Robinson (Keiser).

“As I have said in the past, there are tons of camps that these young men can go to throughout the off season, but we offer so much more than just football,” said Shashaty, who serves as Youth Minister at Calvary Christian. “Yes, football is important, but we bring in collegiate and high school players who share their experiences on and off the playing field.”

This event is certainly something that combines football with a message – and because Shashaty has found a unique balance in his life – the T-48 truly comes with a message.

Shashaty was a record setting quarterback at Calvary Christian before going to Liberty University. When he returned and started his own family, he was ready to give back to the same environment that paved the way for him to be so successful as an athlete, student, husband and father – as well as someone who continues to reach out to those around him.

“To know me, is to understand someone who was very fortunate to have experienced so much because of my faith and football,” Shashaty explained. “I have always been surrounded by people who gave back, and that’s what I wanted to do.”

The goal of these Friday night monthly events is to keep the athletes sharp in the offseason and learn so much about their positions – with the help of coaches who have so much experience.
