Very few areas of this country can boast the amazing prospects that south Florida has – and that can be traced to the competitive youth programs that exist from West Palm Beach to Homestead.
By having such impressive youth teams and coaches, it now makes it easier for athletes to make an impact at the varsity level – even as elite as a three-time state champion like the Miami Northwestern Bulls.
No matter where you go in the tri county area, you will find freshmen and sophomores who are not only making a contribution, but in some cases, are actually the reason for the success of teams.
DICKENS PROFILE
PLAYER: Taron Dickens
POSITION: QB
SCHOOL: Miami Northwestern
CLASS: 2023
HEIGHT: 5-11
WEIGHT: 175
SCOUTING: What this young man represents, as he showed during the season, and in the 5A state title game against Orlando Jones, is a difference maker.
Easily one of the premier young players in Florida, Dickens was one of those quality athletes who many could not wait until he arrived on campus.
So impressive was he that during the summer, he was actually the quarterback for the Bulls’ 7-on-7 team, and while head coach Mac Edwards never likes to boast about his players, it was tough not to heap plenty of superlatives about his freshman signal caller.
While this football team is already a huge favorite to win their fourth straight state title later this year in Daytona Beach, it’s players like Dickens who will continue to fuel that championship talk.
For those who have followed high school football for any length of time, it should really come as no surprise that prospects – like Dickens – are stepping up to take a lead role.
