After a productive sophomore year, Peter Zamora made his move in the off season to attend Deerfield Beach. This past Saturday, he showed many on hand for the Make A Play/The Event 7-on-7 tournament just how impressive he will be this coming year.
In beating Artie Burns and his Dream Team to capture the Varsity competition at Ives Park, Zamora and his South Florida Lightning combined talent with a lot of skill to emerge as the winners.
With Hard Knocks and Derrick Lester taking home the 15 and under title, this event was certainly one of the premier tournaments so far this season – and over 25 teams came to compete from as close as Miami-Dade and Broward and as far away as Orlando, Tampa, Palm Beach, Clewiston and Clearwater.
For Zamora, who had a brilliant youth career before being part of the 2018 Cardinal Gibbons’ 5A state championship team and then moving on to Monarch last year, the chance to work with a powerhouse program like head coach Jevon Glenn and the Bucks have put together is something that will certainly benefit his game.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play for such a great program and q quality school like Deerfield,” said Zamora. “To me, education is huge and choosing a program that fits me was essential. What they have done on the football field is amazing and I am honored to be a part of it.”
The leadership that Zamora has displayed over the past two years comes from his maturity and ability to play this game year round. In the off season, he is often spending time with his receivers and working out to ensure that Deerfield can take things one step further in 2020.
In beating The Dream Team, a number of players stepped up and got better during the course of the tournament.
Coach Mike Bailey, James Hill, Calvin Wallace and Rick Jacobs featured some of south Florida’s finest football prospects from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
For Burns and his team, it will be a fun 7-on-7 season as the former Hurricane and Pittsburgh Steeler returns home to give back to the community that he grew up in.
