The running back position in south Florida has always been looked up to for all the impressive talent that the area has long produced.
Some of the elite backs have represented schools in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties for decades, and that’s exactly why college coaches have made this a major destination for amazing talent that comes out of this area like a free-flowing pipeline.
Back in the 1960’s and 70’s, there were some tremendous running backs who advanced to the collegiate level – and then on to the next level. That is something that continues to happen today.
Yes, running backs in south Florida have long been at the epicenter of talent – and that is not likely to change anytime soon.
JONES PROFILE
PLAYER: Maurice Jones
POSITION: RB
SCHOOL: Miami Killian
CLASS: 2022
HEIGHT: 5-9
WEIGHT: 190
SCOUTING: Having watched this young man four time over the past year – against some quality football talent – there was never a reason to not believe he was going to be among the best in the state in 2020.
While he left Coral Gables, which surprised some and angered others, he makes the move to play for a Cougar squad that will indeed showcase his ability to run the ball and return kicks.
If you watch him film or see him during practice sessions, you don’t really get how impressive he is. This is a runner who is quick, has tremendous balance and instincts that is very tough to pick up at a combine or in a 7-on-7 setting.
What this underclassman is – for the lack of gushing all over his potential – is a major college back who will not only get it done over the next few years in high school, but certainly become a back who has a tremendous future.
As many running backs rely on speed and athletic ability, here is a young man who does that as well – but he also adds an element of being versatile and skilled as a pure back who catches and creates.
There are some elite back in Florida in the 2022 Class, but very few bring to the table Maurice Jones does.
