When you think about the off season, especially in south Florida, you think of football.
While many across the country take a break from the sport, south Florida does not have that in their vocabulary. It is the regular season and the off season – and football is the main focus 12 month of the year.
As coaches and players look forward to the challenges of camps and combines, they also love the competition of 7-on-7 events.
Remember, from January to April – and then again from June to August, competition gets these athletes better for the season ahead.
Taking time away from the sport only gives someone a chance to sneak up and take your spot. The reason why there are so many players competing in the NFL and at colleges in every corner of the country from Florida is they have been taught not to take any time away from the sport.
HOWARD PROFILE
PLAYER: Devin Howard
POSITION: TE
SCHOOL: Plantation
CLASS: 2021
HEIGHT: 6-2
WEIGHT: 180
SCOUTING: If you’ve been around football in south Florida for any length of time, you already have mad respect for head coach Steve Davis and his Plantation Colonels.
A mild manner coach that everyone truly admires, Davis has always kept his competitive edge and has gladly passed that down to his coaches and players.
Devin Howard is one of those prospects who has greatly benefited from being part of Coach Davis and this team. Just over the past year, you can see how much he has learned and improved his game.
During this past season – when the Colonels lost just two times – both to the eventual state and national champion St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders – he played a key role as a junior.
This spring, in an effort to get better and give his program a chance to be in the playoff mix again, Howard, a quality pass-catching tight end, is part of the successful, Florida Fire, and was part of last Sunday’s tryouts at Milander Stadium in Hialeah.
What Howard brings to the table is an athletic receiving tight end who has the chance to be very special.
This is yet another prospect to keep an eye on this coming year – as college continue to watch his talent and skill level continue to improve.
