While the Big Ten and Pac 12 made moves Tuesday to postpone all fall sports including football, the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 decided they would move forward with their seasons as scheduled.
University of Miami Athletic Director Blake James joined The Joe Rose Show this morning to discuss his conference’s decision to proceed as planned.
“We had an idea that the Big Ten and PAC 12 were going to make those decisions," James said. "We met as a group in the ACC three times on Monday, and our presidents met, in consultation with our medical experts, all were in support of us moving forward, looking at the health and safety of our young people in our fall sports programs.”
James spoke about the conference’s going out and making their own decisions.
“Ideally, I think it would have been a more ideal situation if we could have had some of these things better coordinated between the five of us," Miami's AD said.
While James did acknowledge that COVID-19 is day-to-day, he did discuss the Canes’ plan for the fall.
“What I do know is we are moving forward with a plan of 11 games," James said. "If it works out that we can do a bowl game as well, then I’m committed to doing that for our young people because I believe they’ll deserve it.”
Blake also spoke about player safety, spring football, the playoff, and other issues fall sports are facing. The full interview can be found below.
