Joe has been passionate about South Florida High School Football for years now.  He delivered strong criticism of the decision made by the FHSAA and how it will impact the student-athletes in our own communities.

High School Football in South Florida has been a great tradition for years, producing some of the nation’s top talent including NFL Hall of Famers. Due to the COVID pandemic, it is looking more and more like Miami-Dade and Broward will have trouble getting their seasons going, especially on time.

The FHSAA held their meeting this week to determine what the course would be for Fall sports with Dr. Jennifer Maynard, the chair of the FHSAA's Sports Medicine Advisory Committee saying that sports should be delayed until further notice.

Due to a 10-5 vote, the FHSAA decided it would allow schools a start date of July 27. The vote leaves the decision in the hands of the local counties now.  South Florida is a major hot spot and won’t have the same opportunities as student-athletes around the state that aren’t as badly impacted.

“I think the decision the board of directors made on the 20th is disappointing," Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said today on the show. "It will create limitations for Miami-Dade student-athletes. They won’t have the same opportunities to condition and participate the way other students will around the state.”
