Before the DH returns to the National League on a permanent basis, Bartolo Colón would like one last shot pitching in Major League Baseball.
Colón - who turned 48 in May - is currently pitching for Acereros de Monclova, a Mexican League team. Andy Martino of SNY says that Colón is still holding out hope for a chance to pitch at the Major League level again:
"People who know Colon saw that, even at his age, he’s looking to get back to the big leagues. He’s not pitching in Mexico purely for the love of competition. He still has his eye on the show."
In seven starts this season, Colón has a 3.95 ERA and 1.246 WHIP across 43 1/3 innings. Earlier this month, Colón tossed a complete game for Acereros de Monclova, a team that includes former major leaguers Erick Aybar, Chris Carter and Addison Russell.
Colón last pitched in the major leagues in 2018, going 7-12 with a 5.78 ERA and 5.47 FIP in 146 1/3 innings for the Texas Rangers. Colón is more than six years older than the oldest active Major League player, future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols, who will turn 42 next January.
