Eric Bieniemy may finally find a head coaching job, just not in the NFL.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator has emerged as a candidate for the USC job, which became vacant on Monday after the university fired head coach Clay Helton.
Bieniemy is a native of Southern California and has told those close to him that the USC job is one of the only college jobs that would interest him, per Schefter.
The 52-year-old has been the Chiefs offensive coordinator since 2018, the same year Patrick Mahomes took over as starter, and has had tremendous success in the role.
Bieniemy has been considered for several NFL head coaching jobs the last couple years but teams continue to pass on him despite his success as a coordinator, which has raised questions about the effectiveness of the Rooney Rule.
