The most coveted trophy for athletes that lace up skates is on the line and for the first time in perhaps decades, South Florida is feeling confident about the Panthers chances.

Game 1 between the Panthers and Lightning is scheduled for Sunday at the BB&T Center. Florida enters the matchup having won two straight over Tampa Bay to end the season on top of a six game win streak dating back to April 24th.

Despite being one of the NHLs hottest teams entering the post season, oddsmakers still aren't confident in the Panthers being the team that hoists the Stanley Cup Trophy in early July.

But according to former NHL goaltender and Florida Panthers draft pick, Kevin Weekes, this Panthers team is talented enough to compete for the NHL title.

"I love the Panthers team this year. They made some major changes in the off season and those moves have paid off in huge dividends for them. I love their squad."

Weekes, now an NHL Network analyst, points to the Panthers +36 goal differential this season as being "amazing" and believes the combination of Bobrovsky, Dreidger and yes, even rookie Spencer Knight, will be enough in goal to help propel this Panthers squad to a potential deep playoff run.
