Former Canes’ Basketball Coach and current Florida State Head Coach Leonard Hamilton talks about how he handles his players on NBA Draft night saying, “The most important thing is it is their night.”
When helping players to decide what to do with their careers, Hamilton says, “Every kid is different.”
He cites, “Scotty Barnes was such a humble guy that he was hesitant to go to the draft.”
Furthermore, he says, “I actually had to make calls to show him he would get drafted.”
For the most part though, Hamilton says, “Most 18 and 19-year-olds are not mature enough to enter the draft so you inform them to make the best decision.”
When it comes to wanting his players to go to certain teams, Hamilton admits, “There is no doubt we like some more stable franchises but you do not have the luxury to pick.”
Finally, Paolo Banchero is one of the top picks Hamilton is familiar with because he played against FSU and the coach says, “He is a complete player but there are adjustments he will have to make as they all do.”
The NBA Draft is Thursday at 8 p.m.
