The Lions are starting to line up their external candidates for general manager.

The team plans to interview longtime NFL on ESPN analyst and former Washington Football Team and Eagles executive Louis Riddick on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport.

This comes a couple days after it was reported Detroit plans to interview former Texans general manager Rick Smith next week.

Riddick, 51, has garnered interest from various teams with front-office openings over the past few years. The Lions likely won't be the only team to interview him this offseason. The Falcons are reportedly eyeing him for their GM opening as well.

Shortly after retiring from the NFL in 1998 after a six-year career, Riddick joined Washington's front office as a pro scout and within four years worked his way up to director of pro personnel. He later followed the same path with the Eagles, where he worked from 2008-13.

If Riddick lands the GM job in Detroit, he'll face a big decision on what to do with Matthew Stafford. He's openly raved about Stafford in the past, including prior to this season when he said the Lions have failed their franchise QB.
