Lucas Giolito has a unique connection to Seinfeld, even though he fancies himself as more of a Curb Your Enthusiasm guy.
The Boston Red Sox starter, who is out for the season with a UCL injury, comes from a family of actors. His mother, Lindsay Frost, is an actress, as was his grandfather, Warren Frost.
Among the roles Warren Frost, who died in 2017 at the age of 91, was known for included Henry Ross, Susan’s father in Seinfeld.
“I never talked to him about it. I didn’t know he was on Seinfeld until I was probably a teenager,” Giolito told Rob Bradford on Audacy’s Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast. “I think either I looked him up on IMDB and was like what the hell, mom, he was on this show? Or my mom told me, something like that. He never openly talked about it.”
Even with the family background, Giolito readily admits he’s not a huge fan of sitcoms, including Seinfeld.
“I’ve seen the episodes he’s been in,” Giolito said. “It’s cool, Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of my favorite comedies. And Larry David, knowing that Warren got to work with him is really cool. …
“I love Curb and it’s the same type of humor, but sitcoms have never appealed to me incredibly well. Friends and shows like that, Seinfeld – and I know Seinfeld is in its own category of being genius, and I appreciate that, but at the same time it didn’t hit for me. Going through the first season, watching it with my buddy, I was like I wish I was watching Curb.”
