It's less than a month into the Dolphins offseason and it's already been a wild ride. From the Deshaun Watson trade rumors, a ton of coaching changes, and Tua Tagovailoa publically saying he isn't sure if he'll be back in a Dolphins jersey for his second year in the NFL.
On Tuesday, the offseason became even more interesting with the Dolphins reportedly promoting not one, but two, assistant coaches to the vacant offensive coordinator position. The plan? Co-offensive coordinators for the 2021 NFL season.
ESPN's Cameron Wolfe joined Hochman and Crowder on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the interesting move by third-year head coach Brian Flores.
"I think a lot of fans are going to be disappointed because it's not the sexy hire," Wolfe said. "I think they didn't feel like last year's offense, the scheme, was so terrible. … I think they feel like with Studesville and Godsey, they can take the good parts of the offense, bring new ideas and bring it together as one."
Eric Studesville has coached the running backs in the Dolphins organization since 2018 and Godsey, a former offensive coordinator in Houston, was the tight ends coach in Miami. The semblance of one coach having worked with the run game (Studesville) and the other with the passing game may be the balance the Dolphins are looking for, according to Wolfe.
