5 teams showing interest in Yasiel Puig

Yasiel Puig didn't ultimately end up playing during the 2020 MLB season, but the 30-year-old reportedly has a slew of teams interested in his services for 2021.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles "appear to have varying levels of interest" in the former All-Star.

After splitting the 2019 season with with the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland, Puig was actually on the cusp of joining the Atlanta Braves in July of 2020, only for a positive COVID-19 test to prevent a deal from being completed.

Puig has slashed .265/.334/.478 over his last three major league seasons. He's perhaps never lived up to the sky-high expectations that he set with his early-career performance as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but his bat still would provide value for teams nonetheless. While probably still capable of playing both corner outfield positions, Puig may make more sense for American League teams, where, at least on a part-time basis, he could DH.

It is worth noting that Puig was sued this past October by a woman who accuses him of sexually assaulting her at a Los Angeles Lakers game in October of 2018. Puig, through his attorney, denied the allegations.
