Maple Masher has arrived: Clayton McCullough talks Marlins' electric opening weekend

Colorado Rockies v Miami Marlins

The vibes around loanDepot park are officially immaculate. After a weekend defined by late-inning heroics and a bullpen that refused to blink, Miami Marlins manager Clayton McCullough joined The Joe Rose Show Monday to break down a sweep that felt like a carbon copy of last year’s grind-it-out identity. The headliner? Rookie sensation Owen Caissie (affectionately dubbed the "Maple Masher") who punctuated the series with a massive walkoff two-run homer on Sunday.

While Caissie’s power is grabbing the headlines, the Marlins' bullpen is the early-season MVP. Through three games, the relief corps hasn't surrendered a single run. McCullough credited the performance to a mix of elite velocity and a coaching staff that has maximized every arm in the room. Pete Fairbanks has already locked down two saves, and Andrew Nardi’s return to high-leverage situations has been seamless.

It wasn't all smooth sailing, as Max Meyer had to navigate a rocky three-run first inning on Sunday. However, McCullough walked away impressed by the young starter’s maturity to right the ship and give the Fish 5 solid innings. It’s that resilience, combined with a lineup that believes no game is over until the final out, that has South Florida dreaming big.
