While much of the focus locally and nationally is on the quarterback battle between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis is reportedly targeting an upgrade across from Marshon Lattimore at cornerback.
Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com reports that the Saints are "exploring available options in the trade market for a cornerback," adding that C.J. Henderson of the Jacksonville Jaguars is among those being looked at.
The Jaguars used the No. 9 overall pick on Henderson in the 2020 NFL Draft, but despite that, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday that a trade of the former Florida star appears possible:
Given that he was a top-10 pick, Henderson's production in his rookie season was relatively underwhelming, with Pro Football Focus grading him as the second-best cornerback on the Jaguars and the 74th overall player at the position in the league. Still, it's rather surprising to see a team move on -- or even ponder moving on -- from such a high draft pick this quickly.
Then again, Henderson was made the No. 9 overall pick when Dave Caldwell was the Jaguars general manager and Doug Marrone was the head coach. The Urban Meyer-Trent Baalke regime may have an entirely different view of Henderson than their predecessors did.
